Staff

The Peninsula Diving Center primary staff consists of 12 primary instructors totaling more than 33,000 instructional hours of below surface time. When you combine recreational dive time with instructional time, you have over 65,000 hours of water time. The additional staff, the Dive Control Specialists, Assistant Instructors and assorted dive leaders represent an additional 10,000 hours of water time. Overall, this represents around 18,000 dives. And this does not even include the experts that are brought in just for some of the advanced classes.

As an example, the DAN O2 Course is taught by a certified oxygen provider, the Legal Aspects of Dive Leadership Course is taught by a personal injury lawyer/diver and the Medical Aspects of Diving Course is taught by an EMT/diver. All Peninsula Diving Center Staff are screened for their knowledge and watermanship. In addition, the complete staff does quarterly updates and refreshers to insure that they stay current in all aspects of diving and diving instruction.

"Scuba Diving is Great: In the over 15 years I've had the opportunity to play in the water, I have had wonderful experiences in both salt and fresh water, at sea level and high altitude, in water temperatures from 28 F° to 80 F°.
If you've ever wondered what it is like to see what's under the water up-close, or wanted to swim with all varieties of marine life, you will realize then, that diving is for you.
I enjoy working with people and sharing with them this great experience Scuba Diving."

"I was certified as an Open Water Diver in 1983 at Peninsula Dive Center. My instructor was Doug Lyvere. This made my childhood dream of being a SCUBA diver a reality. My wife Nancy is also a diver, we were certified together by Doug in 1983. Since then we have been on numerous diving trips, mostly in California but we have also been to Australia, Great Barrier Reef, the Cayman Islands. I was certified as an Instructor in 2000. I made the choice to become an Instructor so that I could introduce people to the wonderful underwater world. We are fortunate to live just an hour away from the best diving in the world, the Monterey Peninsula. I love introducing students to this premier dive location. I am also fortunate to be able to teach at Peninsula Dive Center, the staff and Instructors are the best and the shop feels like being at home. I will make your diving experience fun and enjoyable. I spend my spare time out of the water with my wife and I own Arabian horses, we compete in Endurance riding and Dressage. Nancy being the more accomplished of the two of us. We also have two German Shepherd Dogs that keep us going as well.
Hope to meet you at the shop soon."

"Diving always held a big facination for me. Growing up in Austria, Europe, I saw my first ocean (the Mediterranean Sea in Northern Italy) when I was 15. Little did I know at that time, what a real ocean is supposed to look like! After moving to the States one of my first items on the list was to get certified. And then the ocean and I become good friends to be visited as often as possible. I dove in lots of different places with interesting people, working on various research projects both in warm and cold water, but I always come back to Northern California.
So why do I teach?
- It is the best feeling in the world, teaching somebody to breath on SCUBA and then see their eyes get bigger and bigger, when they discover this "new world" on their first ocean dive.
- It's one of my favorite sports and I like to share it with others and it works well together with my other hobbies: traveling and archiology/history.
- It's what I love to do."

Ivan Paderata - Instructor NASE
" I had my first dive experience on a check-out dive in Hawaii in 1996. Having a close encounter with a Green Sea Turtle graciously flying through the clear water, convinced me to repeat the experience. I was certified at Peninsula Diving Center in 1999 as Open Water Diver. Soon after, I completed the Diver Development Class and was certified as Open Water Instructor in 2000.
I like the technical sports - I mean sports, where you need to handle some equipment. I used to race sailboat regattas on lakes in Europe (Fireball and Flying Dutchman class) and worked as ski instructor for more than 15 years. It is always a pleasure to introduce others into new sports I like. Therefor Therefore, it was quite easy to make the decision to become a Scuba Instructor.
Thanks to my diving friends, I also got drawn into studying marine life (I have a technical education, so you can imagine, how many hours I had to put into studying biology again). But it is now a pleasure to be able to talk to students about all the marine life they can see during their dives in Monterey. It is an amazing variety of species, you can see out there and we need to use all means to protect all marine life for the next generations to explore and enjoy.
My recent trip took me to the waters of Hawaii. Seeing Manta Rays circling in front of me, Garden Eels peeking from the sand, reef sharks resting under rocks, listening to whales singing under water, swimming with wild dolphins.... just to mention a view few, these are the experiences, that change your life. I hope you will come to learn dive with us and will be able to experience this on your own.
See you soon at the dive shop."

"I received my Open Water Certification from Peninsula Diving Center back in the Fall of 2000. I was bitten by the Scuba bug pretty hard. "All my training has been through the PDC. I was certified in August of 2000. And took the Stress & Rescue course (highly recommended for all divers) in Octover of same year. Being asked to come back and help out in classes inspired me to get my Assistant Instructor Certification and so I signed up and completed the Diver Development Program in 2002.
I'm now on staff at PDC as Assistant Instructor. It's been very satisfying helping new students to become certified divers, I don't know who's learning more - me or the student.
Also, if you are a certified diver and need a buddy, give me a call through the shop. Maybe we can hook up or I can help find another diver."

“I’ve loved being underwater for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would watch the many episodes of Jacques Cousteau’s Undersea World and even then I wanted to be diving with him and his crew. I finally got my Open Water certification in 1995. With that, I spent as much time as I could underwater, unfortunately life got in the way and my diving priority went to the wayside. That was until a friend and I decided to take a tropical vacation at a diving resort. In the quest for a pair of warm water gloves for this trip, I found myself in Peninsula Diving Center. My diving priority had suddenly come back, which kept me coming back to the store. I now have several new friends, many dozens of additional dives, rescue training, Instructor’s Certificate and the experience of helping many new divers discover the amazing underwater world that was introduced to me many years ago by a very inspirational diver with a funny accent."

"Ever since I was a little kid watching Jacque
Cousteau's underwater world, I have always wanted to dive. There is no feeling like it... exploring a whole new world, right in your backyard! Since I've been certified to dive at PDC, I have not been able to get enough of diving and the waters right here in CA are amazing with the diversity of life that is present. There is no time like the present to start this amazing journey and no place better to start it than at PDC."
